What we believe at Inversion about Jesus, the Bible, and the Church

Our Beliefs

what do we believe?

Our ability to grow together as a church stems from what we hold central: Jesus Christ and our commitment to the biblical narrative.

By the grace of God, this story becomes our story as we perpetuate it by the power of the Holy Spirit, and as we serve our local and global community, inviting others to participate in this mysterious pursuit of Jesus together.

Together, we are: Biblical, Devotional, Missional, Connectional

So, in contrast to mere intellectual agreement with an externalized creed that could have no impact on a person’s heart or actions, we seek to recapture the importance of a living, deeply personal, ever-growing relationship with God in community. So what then are our "essentials"?

we place six affirmations at the center:

  • the centrality of the Word of God
  • the necessity of new birth
  • the Church as a fellowship of believers
  • the commitment to the whole mission of the Church
  • the conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit
  • the reality of freedom in Christ

Our Movement

Inversion is part of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) - a rapidly growing multi-ethnic movement of over 850 churches in the United States and Canada with ministries on five continents of the world. Together, we have nearly 3,000 churches around the world, in places like the Congo, India, Sudan, Japan, and Thailand.

The ECC, also known as, "The Covenant," is an immigrant revival movement originally founded by Swedish immigrants, known as "Mission Friends," in the United States in 1885. The ECC it is a voluntary covenant of churches dedicated to cultivating communities of worship committed to: prayer, preaching, and study of the word; the celebration of the sacraments; and fellowship across gender, race, age, culture, and class.

The ECC values the Bible as the word of God, the gift of God’s grace and ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, the importance of extending God’s love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity.
